Linux & Music

Here are some starting points if you are interested in using Linux for some of your music needs.

Linux has a fair number of music programs. MIDI, multi-track recorders , sound editors, sound players, encoders, decoders, and probably more then I am remembering at the moment.
Here are some things to get you started:

Schematics:
For now, here is a GREAT program. JSchem - it'll read and edit those ExpressSCH files in Linux and Mac (oh, and windows too).

All JSchem files were released under GPL v2. Requiers Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.4 or newer.

My main multi track recording program. Also it can edit/modify sound files, and export them in a variety of different formats.

Ardour - http://www.ardour.org/
Ardour is a digital audio workstation. I don't use it regularly, but it seems to have a good following.

Ecasound is a software package designed for multitrack audio processing.

Traverso - http://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/traverso/
Traverso: A free, cross platform multitrack audio recording and editing suite.

XO Wave - http://www.xowave.com/
XO Wave is a digital audio workstation with a focus on CD Mastering and audio for video work

Rosegranden - http://www.rosegardenmusic.com/
Rosegarden is a professional audio and MIDI sequencer, score editor, and general-purpose music composition and editing environment.

Listening:

Call me old school, but this is all I need to listen to music.
